This morning I decided to try Glutenfreeda's Instant Oatmeal. I have been craving oatmeal for the past week and all there is in my house are my roommates' contaminated Quaker Instant Apple Cinnamon packets. I have read good things about Glutenfreeda's oatmeal on celiac.com's forum boards about oatmeal, and was happy to find a cup in my randomly stocked pantry from the GFAF Expo last month.
I had the "Brown Sugar and Flax" flavored one to try, so I added hot water to the fill line (halfway up the cup, about 2/3 - 3/4 cup according to the package) and let it sit for three minutes. Microwaving is not recommended for the cups, probably because they don't seem heat safe.
The photo on the label is not at all the texture of the oatmeal you're going to get out of this cup. The picture shows firm yet tender looking individual oats, however the actual product is more like a very thick, gluey texture. You can fix this by adding more water or a little milk, however you take it.
The oatmeal was not to sweet and not too bland; I for one thought it would be spectacular with cinnamon, milk, and a little bit more brown sugar. Glutenfreeda uses ground flax, which is awesome so you don't end up with flax kernels in your teeth as you chew. After fixing the thick, gluey texture, this oatmeal was a delicious and really filling way to begin my workday.

This oatmeal is processed in a facility that also uses dairy (milk), eggs, soy, and tree nuts, so if you're sensitive to these things tread carefully. One of my favorite things about this product is the minimal ingredients in it: Certified gluten-free oats, brown cane sugar, ground flax, and sea salt. Four ingredients, all non-GMO. Their gluten free oats are certified at less than 5ppm of gluten. Thats 4 times less possible gluten than the national requirement of less than 20ppm!
Glutenfreeda offers these oatmeal cups in a few flavors:
On their website their product list boasts 7 different kinds of instant oatmeal packets, granola, burritos, pizza wraps, pocket sandwiches, and cheesecake. The burritos, pizza wraps, and pocket sandwiches are all microwaveable in two minutes and must make an awesome snack!
I really did enjoy this oatmeal and look forward to seeing what else Glutenfreeda makes!
Love,
