These chips held a lot of promise, boasting an awesome Sriracha flavor and 1 1/4 veggie servings. I got this bag as a sample at the GFAF Expo, and just had the whim to rip open the bag today. At 100 calories per serving bag, these chips are a more flavorful low calorie snack option for us gluten free goddesses.
The chips are made from peas, corn and rice, and never lost their grainy pea texture. While they are indeed crunchy, these chips are not the same kind of crisp crunchy as regular potato chips. Think a texture more like a brown rice cracker but a little grainy from the green peas. And they taste faintly of just straight up peas. (Can you tell I don't really like peas?)
The chips are small in size; I would say they are about the size of a nickel each, so not so great for any kind of dipping. They are definitely more filling than traditional potato chips but they have 80% less fat in them plus 3g of protein. The bag was more full than a normal chip bag and it was nice to get in a good, filling snack.
The Sriracha flavor was not nearly as spicy as I had hoped. These chips are more like a spicy garlic flavor than truly Sriracha flavored. They are not spicy, not even close to the spiciness of Hot Cheetos or Spicy Nacho Doritos. They are also not very evenly coated; some pieces tasted like a spoonful of seasoning, others just tasted like naked pea chips. This may just be a problem caused by the weird shape of the chip coins (not a single one was completely flat).
I would be very interested to hear about the other flavors of these Veggie Chips so speak up if you've tried them!
